Side Lobe Suppression

Side Lobe Suppression suppresses side lobing caused by the finite length of the column a tapering function is applied which reduces output level at the end of the column. The kind of tapering function determines the attenuation of the side lobes. It can be chosen to 10 or 20 dB in the Beamguider. If SLS is off, the side lobes occur around -12 dB which corresponds to a rectangular "tapering function" (no tapering), with SLS 10dB the side lobes are at -22 dB and so on. Due to the tapering function, overall acoustic output power is may be lower.
